Binfield is a village and civil parish in Berkshire, the village is located in the Bracknell Forest borough.
Binfield has a population of around 8,000. The name Binfield comes from the coarse grass in the field where the village was first discovered inside Windsor Forest.
Binfield is famous for being the home of 18th century poet Alexander Pope when he was a child. The Stag and Hounds inn is said to have been used as a hunting lodge by Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. Elizabeth I said to have sat in her window and watch the maypole dancing outside. An elm tree found outside the Stag and Hounds is said to have marked the centre of Windsor Forest, the stump of the tree was eventually removed in 2004. George Orwells novel 'Coming up for Air' takes place in Binfield.
Binfield has a local cricket and football team, with both having their own grounds, there are also many parks in Binfield, notably Jubilee Fields and Pope's Meadow.
There are two Church of England churches in Binfield, the All Saints' church and the St Mark's church.
Also Binfield is home to the Newbold College which is a Seventh-day Adventist college and church.
The All Saints Church is mainly 19th century but has alot of ancient fittings, particularly the 17th century hourglass and iron stands.
Binfield Place is by far the oldest building in Binfield, dating back to the 15th century. The house was built for Robert Sampson. The Good Luck of Binfield hangs in Binfield Place, According to legend, the plaque must never be taken down, or bad luck will fall on who ever removes it.
