Wokingham is a market town and parish in the county of Berkshire and has a population of around 30,000. It has expanded greatly in recent years. It is very close to Reading and Bracknell and is less than 30 miles from London. Its population is over 30,000.
A large part of Wokingham has been developed during the past 80 years.

The Norreys Estate was built in the 1960's and this estate was built by Norreys Avenue which is the oldest residential road in the area, being built in the 1940's for emergency housing following World War 2. Most of the housing around Norreys Avenue contains 1940's style prefabricated housing and also several blocks of 1950's police houses.

Wokingham is infamous for starting bull-baiting in the 1660's.
This was when two bulls would be tethered in the Market Place and baited by dogs on St Thomas' Day every year.The cows would be paraded around the town before the event and then locked in the yard of the Rose Inn which is situated where the present Superdrug store stands, with people travelling from miles around to see the spectacle. The Vile 'sport' was prohibited by the corporation in 1821.
