This part of Berkshire county is less densely populated than the east part of the county. The administrative capital is Newbury. The other main town in this district include Hungerford, Lambourn, Pangbourne and Thatcham. Larger villages include Burghfield, Hermitage, Mortimer, Ramsbury and Theale. Point of interest is Walbury Hill (297m).




The area around Lambourn is well known for its for its numerous horse racing stables and training grounds in Berkshire.




Newbury is home to the major horse-racing fixture, Newbury Racecourse in Berkshire. The most prestigious race in the calendar is the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup which normally takes place in late November. Newbury area provides wide range for art lovers such as The Corn Exchange ,The Watermill Theatre New Greenham Arts. Not the mention the attraction of the Newbury Spring Festival showcases classical music and Comedy Festival.
