***** BRACKNELL IN BERKSHIRE

BRACKNELL is a new town in the Bracknell Forest borough of the Berkshire County. The population (now over 110 000) is growing rapidly mainly due to its location of the European headquarters of several important industries .

The town has to plenty to offer to tourist and business people in the Berkshire County in the Bracknell Forest.




It lies to the south-east of Reading, southwest of Windsor and west of London. The excellent road links (end of A329 (M) and Junction 3 of the M3 and Junction 10 of M4 motorways).

The gigantic Swinley Woods and Crawthorne Woods surround the town. The town was designated as a New Town in 1949 this is mainly due to the major reconstruction of the town after World War II.

The town has absorbed parts of many local outlying areas including Warfield, Winkfield and Binfield.






Easthampstead has a extremely long history. There is a round barrow from the Bronze Age at Bil Hill in Easthampstead and Easthampstead Park was a royal hunting lodge in Windsor Forest.

The 'Old Manor' pub in Bracknell is one of the oldest buildings in the town. It is a 17th century brick manor house which also still has the remaining priest holes.Next to the old manor house is where the inn 'Hind's Head' used to be, Dick Turpin is said to drink here. There was also a famous battle here in 1723 between the Grenadier Guards and the infamous group names the Wokingham blacks.




There is a large arts centre at the south of Bracknell. The arts centre is housed in South Hill Park, a mansion which is dated back to 1760. The Wilde Theatre opened in 1984 and was named after Oscar Wilde, who spoke of Bracknell much in his plays.


There are two railway sations in Bracknell, The Bracknell Station and Martins Heron Station. They lie on the line between Waterloo station and Reading.


The district name of Bracknell Forest demonstrates that this area was once part of Windsor Forest.
