***** NEWBURY CARNIVAL 2007
It’s all systems go for this year’s Newbury Carnival! Re-established as one of the major events in the community calendar, the date and theme have been announced for the summer fiesta of fun.
The Carnival will take place on Sunday July 1st, with the procession starting at 2pm. This year’s theme is ‘Celebrating Stage and Screen’ - films, musicals, theatre and TV.
Chairman Bryan Harper says ‘We know that Newbury is bursting with talent and star quality. We are anticipating a lot of interest from schools, amateur dramatic groups and others who are excited by the idea of performing. The carnival provides a great opportunity to promote your organisation in front of an audience of thousands on a stage that stretches right through our town. We want to see entries from across the board – with ideas from Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, the Jungle Book, Dad’s Army to Oliver! So join us to make this the best Carnival ever’
It’s free to enter and organisers are keen to beat last year’s record of 42 entries. Marching bands, street entertainers and majorettes are also expected to be in the big line-up. Entries can be on lorry but are also welcomed on foot, bicycle, tractor, or any legal form of transport!
Cash prizes are available and there’s also the opportunity to collect for your charity.
Events are also planned for the day in Victoria Park, including the annual funfair, rides and stalls.
